American Express Sending Out Reimbursement Checks for Last Year’s Authorized-User Bonus Debacle

American Express frequently sends out Authorized-User (AU) bonuses, typically you get either $50 or 5,000 points for adding an authorized user, with a maximum of 4. (Here is the current rendition.) Last year there was an issue whereby people who opened multiple AUs only got the bonus for one.

Amex is now sending out checks to compensate for that. They are giving $50 for each authorized user, regardless of whether you were supposed to get cash or Membership Rewards points. That’s not a great value for the points, but at this point anything is welcome. The checks are going out even for closed cards.

The odd thing is that some people report getting double-paid via check now or getting paid again despite having been credited last year properly. Bank error in your favor.

These checks are just coming in, so it might still be a day or two for everyone to get theirs.
