Does it make sense to purchase points?
Purchasing points merely because they are on sale doesn’t make sense. If you have a good use for them, buying can lower the price of the stays considerably.
Usually, using points make sense at the most expensive properties, during PointBreaks when some hotels are 5,000 to 15,000 points per night, or when the paid rates are through the roof due to some event in the city.
Conclusion
IHG Rewards Club sells its points monthly at variable discounts that always max at 100%. If your offer is not this good (there are sometimes higher targeted ones), I would wait a bit unless you need more points right at this moment.
