Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.
Right now, TPG is seeing great deals from several carriers to Mexico — this time to San José del Cabo (SJD). It’s a great beach destination, and if you still haven’t vacationed this summer, you can fly out on this deal as soon as next month. Round-trip fares begin right at $201, and you can fly from Cleveland (CLE), Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Oakland (OAK) and Orange County (SNA).
Keep in mind that some of the good deals are available on low-cost carriers or in basic economy seats. That means that added fees are expected, but shouldn’t necessarily be a deal-breaker — there’s still lots of room for savings.
To book, go ahead and search for dates on Google Flights to find the cheapest times to fly. You can then book directly through the airline or through Orbitz or Expedia, if you prefer.
