Update October 4th, 2018: Existing cardholders will be changed over to a new card on January 11th, 2019.
- If you have the Mercedes-Benz Platinum Card, your account will change to the Platinum Card from American Express.
- If you have a Mercedes-Benz Credit Card, your account will be changed to the Amex Everyday Preferred Credit Card.
If you cancel they will also be give you a prorated annual fee credit, but you must cancel before January 11th. Might be a small play of using the airline credit immediately after January 1st and then cancelling. Personally don’t think it’s worth the risk, but up to you.

Update April 2nd, 2018: There are currently no application links that are working for the Mercedes-Benz Platinum card. If anybody finds a working link please share it with us in the comments below. Hopefully all readers that were interested in the card were able to sign up due to the advance notice given here.
Update March 27th, 2018: The official links on the Mercedes-Benz website have been pulled. This application page is still working, but if you’re interested I’d recommend applying sooner rather than later as links seem to be being pulled. Also a rumor that the card will officially stop taking sign ups on 3/31/18.

Original post: The two American Express Mercedes credit cards will cease to exist in January 2019.
Mercedes-Benz partners with American Express to offer two cobranded credit cards:
- Amex Platinum Mercedes card which comes with a 60,000 Membership Rewards points signup bonus and a $550 annual fee
- Amex Mercedes card which comes with 10,000 Membership Rewards points signup bonus and $95 annual fee
Both cards are still available for signup currently, but they have added a note that:
Please note that the American Express and Mercedes Benz Card program will end in January 2019. Applicants can continue to apply for the Platinum Card from American Express exclusively for Mercedes-Benz, but, if approved, the Card will be replaced with a different American Express Card at the time when the Card program ends.
Presumably, the Platinum Mercedes card will be replaced with a standard Platinum card. The basic Mercedes card will probably be replaced with an Amex Green card which also has a $95 annual fee.
Regardless, now is our last chance to signup for these card. It’s possible the application links will remain all the way until the end, or more likely they’ll be pulled at some point before then.
The more interesting of the two cards is the Amex Platinum Mercedes card, one of various Amex Platinum credit cards. Importantly, you can get a separate signup bonus for each card one time. Now is the last time to signup for the card and pocket the 60,000 Membership Rewards points signup bonus. Doubtful we’ll ever see a better signup bonus on this card – it’s been 75k in the past, but probably won’t happen since the card is winding down. Thus, there’s no reason to procrastinate, though it might continue to be available for signup for many months.
Amex Platinum cards come with a hefty $550 fee, but they do come with a $200 airline incidental credit, $200 Uber credit, and $100 Mercedes certificate which somewhat negates the annual fee. If you already have an Amex Platinum card, the other premium card benefits won’t help you much, but it still could be worth getting for the 60k signup bonus if you value these credits to somewhat offset that fee.
The card is a charge card and doesn’t count against your limit-5 Amex credit cards. It’s worth reviewing these Things to Know about American Express Credit Cards before applying.
