Hotel Indigo Bali at Semyniak

I had high expectations for this brand-new hotel in Seminyak
– largely due to the rave online review and great photos taken by fellow
travelers. Usually that’s a recipe for disappointment – especially with a brand
like Indigo that is not uber-luxurious and might result in overly-millennial
hotels. However, I am glad to say that this hotel exceeded our expectations.

The open lobby is simply stunning. They definitely made it Instragram-worthy, but in a way that did not end up being tacky. We had originally booked a regular room for our first night, and then a pool villa for the remaining three nights, which was acknowledged by staff at check in who helped us make arrangements for the transition to the villa very easy and seamless.

The superior room was located in the mazy main building (with several wings) of the large hotel, which seemed to be quite empty. We really liked the room, which was stylish and well-appointed, with cool slippers and bathrobes and a very comfortable bed. While there was no bath tub, the walk-in rain shower did the trick.

But the true amazement came the day after, when we were moved to our pool villa. These are located on the opposite side of the main building, farther away from the beach but in a much more secluded area. There are probably a dozen of them but only two or three seemed taken at the time of our visit.

While the villas we stayed in at the Conrad Sanya Haitang
Bay and at the Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita were both gorgeous, this one
was simply stunning. The large, open air entrance let on a covered cabana
overlooking a long, stretched pool with Jacuzzi. Then, the villa itself was
large and very well appointed, with an expansive bathroom with plentiful
amenities, a deep-soaking bath tub, a walk in shower with direct access to the
pool, a large desk besides the bed, and a cool entertainment system. We
couldn’t have asked for more, truly.

The benefits of staying at a pool villa included a bottle of
sparkling wine (which unfortunately was terrible), a very nice afternoon tea
delivered to our room, and daily breakfast either in-room ar at the main
restaurant.

We ate breakfast every day at the restaurant, and the quality of the food was egregious, featuring your international mainstays, freshly-squeezed juices, an egg station, a waffle/pancake one, and local favorites like bakmi goreng or beef rendang. Also, attached to the restaurant there was a nice coffee shop making very good coffee drinks.

Whilst we did not take advantage of it, the hotel had two main pool areas – an open one (next to the pool bar) and a more private one. There was also a kids club.

The hotel has a prime location on Double Six beach, which offers nice walk opportunities, and it’s located close to many beach bars and restaurants – including the famous La Plancha.

Last but not least, the Indigo features a nice Beach Club by the boardwalk near the sea with a nice infinity pool, good food, and good drinks. We received two complimentary drinks there, and both service and F&B were top notch. A great place to enjoy sunset indeed.

Overall, the Indigo provided an increadible retreat in a very central location, near to all the hustle and bustle of the city. I highly recommend this place – the pool villa – at $350 per night – represented an incredible value indeed.
