President of the United States announced on Wednesday (read more here) that travel from Europe would be temporarily suspended for 30 days starting at midnight tonight.
In reality, this suspension applies to passengers that have been to any of the Schengen member states during the previous 14 days who are not US Citizens, permanent residents, or immediate family members.
Here’s the update from IATA (access their page here):
Effective 13 March 2020 at 23:59 EDT: passengers who have been in a Schengen Member State in the past 14 days are not allowed to enter the USA.
This does not apply to:
– passengers arriving in the US on flights that departed before 23:59 EDT on 13 March 2020;
– passengers who reside in the USA;
– family members of nationals of the USA and of passengers who reside in the USA;
– members of the US armed forces.
Schengen member states are:

- Belgium
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Hungary
- Iceland
- Italy
- Latvia
- Liechtenstein
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Malta
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Poland
- Portugal
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
From tomorrow passengers that have been to any of the Schengen member states and who are eligible to enter the US must arrive at specific airports that are equipped with health screening:
- Atlanta
- Chicago
- Dallas-Fort Worth
- Detroit
- Dulles
- Los Angeles
- Newark
- Kennedy
- San Francisco
- Seattle
- Honolulu
Conclusion
If you have been in any of the non-Schengen parts of Europe such as the UK, Ireland, Russia, or Turkey, this 30-day suspension doesn’t affect you. Finding flights to the US, however, could be difficult because you cannot touch the area. Let’s hope that this suspension is removed in due course after 30 days have passed.
