British Airways has allowed its Executive Club members to partially offset paid fares using Avios, but this has now been extended to the entire fare, except just 1 GBP.
If you decide to use them this way, BA seems to use a value of around 0.6 US cents for each Avios.

The Avios part payment is also available for American Airlines flights between the UK and North America and on select BA codeshares on partners.
