US Strengthens Consumer Protection In Air Travel: Forced Refunds For Services No Tendered & Ban On Junk Fees

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced two new rules yesterday that will help air travelers get refunds for services the airlines have not provided and ban junk fees such as forced fees for seat selection.

You should not, however, confuse these rules with EU’s EC261/2004, which deals with delay and downgrade compensation and the Duty to Care that Community Carriers need to provide and non-community carriers on trips starting in EU/EEA.
