How To: Use Airline Miles to Travel to Zimbabwe

One of the most common conversation topics at TBEX (Travel Bloggers Exchange) conferences is where the next TBEX will be. There are several TBEX conferences held each year: North America, Europe and International (somewhere other than North America and Europe). When I attended the most recent TBEX North America, in Huntsville, Alabama, we speculated a […]

Written by thetravelingmillennial @ First2Board
Sunset at the UAE Presidential Palace, Abu Dhabi We’ve all dreamed about flying around the world, although few have actually achieved it. I met a guy who, along with his friend, quit their jobs and bought a $5,000 per-person around-the-world Delta ticket (economy) through Groupon. Amazing, right? Ten stopovers is great compared to what you can get today on an around-the-world award ticket (up to 7). I created a sample Singapore Airlines around-the-world itinerary to illustrate how the process works and to calculate fuel surcharges. It is worth noting that Korea Air also offers an around-the-world award ticket that I will write about in a later post. I recommend the following approach to booking around-the-world award tickets: Step 1: Plan the Itinerary and Pick Your Carrier Step 2: Hunt and Gather Miles Step 3: Search for Availability Step 4: Book the Ticket..

Palace of Westminster, London Recently, SingaporeAir announced it will increase its award fees for flights on SingaporeAir, eliminate the 15% online booking discount, and eliminate fuel surcharges on SingaporeAir award flights. This news is either good or bad depending on how you redeem your miles. For some of us, the news is almost exclusively good: SingaporeAir’s around-the-world ticket is now approximately $400 cheaper (reduced fuel surcharges) and the mile redemption amounts remain unchanged! Recent SingaporeAir Award Changes KrisFlyer members received the following email: Thank you for your support as a KrisFlyer member. We conduct regular reviews to keep the KrisFlyer programme updated. Following a recent review, we will be making these changes: Revisions to Saver Award levels in the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award Chart have been made to ensure that flight rewards remain sustainable yet competitive. We had last made..

Written by thetravelingmillennial @ First2Board
Sunrise in Iceland I previously wrote about changes that United planned to make to its award flight booking policy, but the actual changes are even worse than anticipated. Just to summarize, United planned to eliminate its free stopover on one-way flights–replacing it with a stopover on round-trip flights in either the origin or destination zone–but United ended up eliminating so much more. These additional devaluations may not be readily apparent, but they’re nonetheless significant: 1. Hard to Book the Excursionist Perk There is no easy way to book the Excursionist Perk, you must book a multi-city award ticket that meets all of the nuanced requirements in order to see a qualifying segment available for zero miles. Most importantly, you need to make sure your desired excursion is in the same award zone as either your origin or destination. That brings us..
