How to Upgrade to the Barclay Aviator Silver Mastercard

Written by Simon – Running For Status @ First2Board

Starting 2017, I didn’t have many trips planned on American Airlines, which was a first for me in a few years. It was mostly because the change to the American Airlines AAdvantage program, which includes the institution of EQD (Elite Qualifying Dollars) and changing to earning miles based on spend. It wasn’t worth it to me to keep flying on revenue tickets on American Airlines so I decided to travel more on award tickets. I haven’t even thought about the Barclay Aviator Silver Mastercard at this point. Back in April, I had some business in Boston, so I had to fly from Seattle to Boston every two weeks. I wasn’t sure how long it was going to be for and flying direct on Alaska and with a connection on Amercian were the best choices, so I paid for many of..

Things I Learned on My Trip to Cuba – Havana Trip Summary

Written by Simon – Running For Status @ First2Board

Things I Learned on My Trip to Cuba – Havana Trip Summary About two weeks ago, I flew down to Havana, Cuba for a few days to run the 2016 Havana Marathon. We spent 5 days (4 nights) there through Marathon Tours and they set up a pretty good schedule for us. Here are some of the notable sights we saw: Old Havana – a lot of historic houses and buildings. Cuban government has been trying to renovate the area but it is a slow process   Tabacuba – One of Cuba’s Cigar Rolling Factories Earnest Hemingway’s Estate – Its far from the main city so recommend hiring a car for the day to take you there La Bodeguita – A famous bar for its mojito. The only difference is that they use the Havana Club 3 year in their..

Paris Marathon 2015 – American Airlines Admirals Club LaGuardia

Written by Simon – Running For Status @ First2Board

Paris Marathon 2015 – American Airlines Admirals Club LaGuardia So earlier in 2014, I unknowingly signed up for an early drawing for the Paris Marathon. I thought I was entering into a free entry to the Paris Marathon but I found out weeks later that I had gotten in and that it was just a drawing for a slot to run it. I thought about it for a few days before signing up (and paying) for the marathon. Sometime in October before the race in April 2015, I saw a deal on The Flight Deal to Paris, but it originates out of Newark. I tried to price it out of Boston but it was substantially higher so I bought the ticket out of Newark. I was going to be there for a week anyway and I would need to take..

Drinking Vacation in Dublin Thanksgiving 2014 Day 2 Irish Castle Tour (Malahide) Jameson Irish Whiskey Factory with Flight Tasting Dinner Drinks at Bad Ass Cafe Fish and Chips at Leo Burdock Since we were still on East Coast time, we woke up around 11am and completely missed the free breakfast at the Westin. We had a few brochures from the hotel and found a castle tour that left in the afternoon we could still make. We walked over to the tourist office on Lower O’Connell Street and caught the afternoon Coastal Tour. We caught the bus right in front of the tourist office and we made our way north towards Manahide Castle. It was about an hour ride up there and I promptly fell asleep somewhere in the middle. Once we got to the Castle, we went on a tour of the..

Drinking Vacation in Dublin Thanksgiving 2014  Day 1 BOS-JFK-LHR-DUB on AA (77W) Galleries First at London Heathrow Junior Suite at the Westin Dublin Thanksgiving Dinner at Gallaghers Boxty House Like all of my other adventures, I found a mileage run on The Flight Deal to Dublin and got my friend to come with me over the Thanksgiving break. It was BOS-JFK-LHR-DUB-PHL-BOS, all on AA so I got to use my SWU for both me and my friend both ways. This would be his first time in business class so he was excited to try out the new product. We were in domestic first from BOS-JFK and we were lucky we were in First since there was about an hour delay so we drank the entire way to JFK. They ran out of Baileys real quick and we moved onto rum and tequilla…

Rock and Roll Las Vegas Marathon 2014 Review

Written by Simon – Running For Status @ First2Board

Rock and Roll Las Vegas Marathon 2014 Review I am definitely a bit late in posting a review about this race. As with most of my travel, it started when I found a deal on The Flight Deal from Boston to Las Vegas. I quickly looked up the dates for the RnR Las Vegas Marathon and quickly found dates that would work for the marathon. Since it was a Sunday Night flight, my friend and I booked a flight leaving Saturday and the redeye Monday night to get back to work on Tuesday. My friend couldn’t find the exact same routing from BOS-LAX but we were on the same flight LAX-LAS. I got the upgrade so we didn’t actually fly together. I got an Avis rental car and drove to the expo for the packet pickup. There was a parking..
